We are hoping to get people who want to be actively involved in improving and promoting Surrey Street Market to join a new Friends' Group.
We will need a small number of individuals to form a committee, but we want lots of names on the register so that we can demonstrate just how much support the market has from local people.
The kinds of things that volunteer Friends might get involved in include:-
• Volunteer ‘History Guides’ to take school parties etc around the market on educational tours.
• Provide a link with the Croydon Society, the Area Conservation Panel and the local museum service.
• Run and maintain the SurreyStreetMarket.com website.
• Help produce regular newsletters.
• Help to produce and distribute marketing materials
• Act as ‘scouts’ to identify possible traders currently operating out of other London markets
• Carry out surveys and footfall counts
• Suggest and/or organise special events/fundraisers in support of the market
• Operate a ‘friends of the market’ stall on an occasional basis (sign up new members, sell postcards, shopping bags, cook-books, etc.)
• Record and ‘broadcast’ a local radio show to promote the market.
The Council will provide advice and assistance to the group to get it started, but we hope that after that it will be able to run independently.
